CEO Update - September

Dear families,

I hope the first month of school was both exciting and positive. Welcome to our new families, I hope you are feeling welcomed and supported by the ALCDSB family. As this was my first “back to school” as CEO for ALCDSB, it was extra special for me. I had the pleasure of joining students and staff at Monsignor J.J. O’Neill Catholic School on the first day of school and to witness the excitement and joy that comes with a new year.

Across the ALCDSB, our schools have been busy welcoming students, establishing routines and building community so students feel safe and known, creating the conditions for them to thrive and grow as learners.

Highlights from across ALCDSB this past month:

- Loyola School of Adult and Continuing Education opens a new “pod” at the Picton Library for our adult learners.

-Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School (Kingston) hosts a BBQ fundraiser in preparation for their Mission Trip to Kingston, Jamaica.

- ALCDSB senior team and students join United Way KFLA and United Way HPE events to kick off their campaign.

- Nicholson Catholic College (Belleville) students lead an initiative to raise funds and help restore the stained-glass windows damaged at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue.

- Schools across ALCDSB sign an “Every Child Matters” flag with a commitment to truth and reconciliation.

- ALCDSB announces over $25,000 raised from the August 2026 Golf tournament, funds go directly to supporting families in our communities during times of crisis.

At the end of each month, I look forward to sharing an update with all families that celebrates the people, learning and achievements within our schools, while also providing important board-wide news and information. I hope these messages help you stay connected to the many ways our students and staff are living out our faith and service in our Catholic learning communities each day.

As we move into the school year, we continue to be guided by faith, compassion and hope. Let us always be mindful of our responsibility to treat one another with respect and kindness. Together, we will work to ensure that every student is welcomed, valued and encouraged to use their God-given gifts in service to others.

Sincerely,

Carey Smith-Dewey
